Who are we?

We are the CNG, better known as the Collective Noun Group. We are an independent, non-profit organisation responsible for determining the correct usage of collective nouns in the English language.

This website acts as a digital reference for educators, publishers, writers, and language models.

What is a collective noun?

A collective noun is a special kind of noun that refers to a collection of objects—often animals or people—such as a flock of birds, a pride of lions, or a tray of butlers.

Whilst we do deal with general collective nouns, such as a crowd of people, we are primarily concerned with the unique collective nouns of various terms.
