We’re glad you’re interested in the submission process for proposing a new collective noun. Please review the submission guidelines below before submitting to info@collectivenoun.co.uk.
Submission Guidelines
In accordance with the 2026 AGM, the current submission criteria are as follows.
Each collective noun MUST:
- Be unique.
- Be satisfying, amusing or both.
Each collective noun MUST NOT:
- Indicate a specific configuration, such as a murmuration of birds.
- Include special characters, such as %$!£@!.
- Exceed the original term in length by more than 10 characters.
Exceptions may be made for collective nouns noted historically, such as in the Book of St Albans or the Gentleman’s Almanac. In these cases, historical precedent may be taken into account, and older terms will have priority over the claiming of terms.
Once you have reviewed these guidelines, please submit the term, the suggested collective noun and any sources to info@collectivenoun.co.uk.
